Girl fakes own kidnapping, demands Rs 35 lakhs from parents
Three ad-hoc insurance agents who allegedly kidnapped an insurance company executive from central Kolkata were arrested by the detective department on Wednesday.

VADODARA: A 19-year-old girl hatched a plan of fake kidnapping — along with her friend — to extort money from her parents.
While the detection of crime branch (DCB) swung into action after receiving a complaint by some unidentified persons in Waghodia on Tuesday, investigations revealed it to be a hoax. The police said that the girl alonng with Bhawik Soni (21) admitted to have planned her own kidnapping as she needed money.
While Soni has been detained by the Waghodia police, the police are still investigating the 19-year-old girl's involvement in the case.
On Tuesday, the girl's mother had received a text message from Soni, who demanded Rs 35 lakh. "The boy sent an SMS to the girl's mother from her mobile phone saying that her daughter has been kidnapped. He demanded Rs 35 lakh for releasing her. The girl's parents immediately informed the police that begun tracking the phone calls. The incident occurred in district but we took up investigation as it was a case of kidnapping and we couldn't afford wasting time," said joint police commissioner, D J Patel.
The girl later called up her parents said that she has been released by the accused. "The girl told us that two unidentified persons kidnapped her in a car outside Parul Institute in Waghodia. We suspected her version to be fishy following which we probed her more. The girl broke down and admitted that she had hatched the kidnapping plan with the help of Soni," said DCP (crime) H R Muliyana.
The girl, who studies in first year of Bachelors of Computer Application, reached Parul Institute in a bus. But instead of going inside, she came out of the institute premises and left with Soni on a motorbike on Tuesday. The duo went to Ajwa and headed towards Makarpura and Por. Soni made calls from her mobile phone and called the girl's father at different locations to deliver money.
Crime branch sleuths led by police inspector, Pradeepsinh Jadeja followed the girl's father in civil dress. "But Soni realized that the police was following the girl's father. He asked her to return home following which she took an auto-rickshaw from Jambua and reached her home," Muliyana added. The police said that the girl's cousin was in a relationship with Soni.
"Soni said that the girl told him to be part of the kidnapping plan or she would expose their relationship to their parents. The girl had learnt that her father's employer had given him lakhs of rupees for some work," the police said. The police are yet to ascertain why the girl required such huge amount.
DSP (rural), Sandip Singh said that they are questioning the boy and further action will be taken only after the girl's statement is taken. "We will decide whether to make the girl co-accused or not after investigations," Singh said.
