Sanjay Dutt is a free man on paper but he says that the feeling has not quite sunk in yet.
The 56-year-old actor, who was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, served a 42-month sentence at Pune’s Yerwada jail. He was released on February 25, 103 days ahead of his prison term.
“I was in solitary confinement. It will take a bit longer for me to feel free. The feeling of freedom is yet to sink in. I have been in and out of jail for the last 23 years. There were so many restrictions, permissions to be taken. I am getting used to live life like a free man. The feeling is yet to hit me.
“They imprison you mentally more than physically. They tell you what to do and what not do in prison,” Dutt said at the India Today Conclave.

He said contrary to people’s perception he did not receive any special treatment during his jail term and was given the same food to eat and same clothes as any other inmate.
“I did not get any VIP treatment. In fact I was treated worse than normal inmates as everyone thought I was getting special treatment. The worse thing about jail was the food, it was terrible and not edible at all.”
The Munnabhai MBBS star said the sentence and the imprisonment always haunted him and his family. He assured that he loves his country and is a patriot.
“It has haunted me all these years. It has haunted my family and especially my father. I am a patriot, my family is patriotic. I cannot think of harming my country. It did affect me a lot. But I thank people that they didn’t lose their faith in me and believed in me,” he said.

The actor said his father actor-politician Sunil Dutt, believed in him and before he passed away he had told him that he was proud of his son.
“I don’t think I let my father down. He knew I was not a terrorist. Before he died he told me that he was proud of me.”
Dutt said other than the day the weapons were found in his house, he has no regrets about anything as he has learnt the valuable lesson of not being brash.
“I don’t have any regrets. I have learnt a lot in these years. It has taught me not to be brash. I have learnt to respect the law about our country and also have learnt about it. I think every citizen should know about the law of the country. But yes I do regret the day those weapons came into my house.”

The actor also opened up about his drug problem which he said began after the death of his mother, actor Nargis Dutt.
“I am quite a shy person in real life. I got into the habit of drugs after my mother died and then it became chronic. I have done every drug there is.

Girl fakes own kidnapping, demands Rs 35 lakhs from parents

Girl fakes own kidnapping, demands Rs 35 lakhs from parents
Three ad-hoc insurance agents who allegedly kidnapped an insurance company executive from central Kolkata were arrested by the detective department on Wednesday.
VADODARA: A 19-year-old girl hatched a plan of fake kidnapping — along with her friend — to extort money from her parents.

While the detection of crime branch (DCB) swung into action after receiving a complaint by some unidentified persons in Waghodia on Tuesday, investigations revealed it to be a hoax. The police said that the girl alonng with Bhawik Soni (21) admitted to have planned her own kidnapping as she needed money.

While Soni has been detained by the Waghodia police, the police are still investigating the 19-year-old girl's involvement in the case.

On Tuesday, the girl's mother had received a text message from Soni, who demanded Rs 35 lakh. "The boy sent an SMS to the girl's mother from her mobile phone saying that her daughter has been kidnapped. He demanded Rs 35 lakh for releasing her. The girl's parents immediately informed the police that begun tracking the phone calls. The incident occurred in district but we took up investigation as it was a case of kidnapping and we couldn't afford wasting time," said joint police commissioner, D J Patel.

The girl later called up her parents said that she has been released by the accused. "The girl told us that two unidentified persons kidnapped her in a car outside Parul Institute in Waghodia. We suspected her version to be fishy following which we probed her more. The girl broke down and admitted that she had hatched the kidnapping plan with the help of Soni," said DCP (crime) H R Muliyana.

The girl, who studies in first year of Bachelors of Computer Application, reached Parul Institute in a bus. But instead of going inside, she came out of the institute premises and left with Soni on a motorbike on Tuesday. The duo went to Ajwa and headed towards Makarpura and Por. Soni made calls from her mobile phone and called the girl's father at different locations to deliver money.

Crime branch sleuths led by police inspector, Pradeepsinh Jadeja followed the girl's father in civil dress. "But Soni realized that the police was following the girl's father. He asked her to return home following which she took an auto-rickshaw from Jambua and reached her home," Muliyana added. The police said that the girl's cousin was in a relationship with Soni.

"Soni said that the girl told him to be part of the kidnapping plan or she would expose their relationship to their parents. The girl had learnt that her father's employer had given him lakhs of rupees for some work," the police said. The police are yet to ascertain why the girl required such huge amount.

DSP (rural), Sandip Singh said that they are questioning the boy and further action will be taken only after the girl's statement is taken. "We will decide whether to make the girl co-accused or not after investigations," Singh said.

J&K parties jittery over BJP’s Mission 44+ plan

Amit Shah will begin J&K visit on Monday; NC talks to Congress
The BJP’s “Mission J&K 44+” has caused quite a few ripples among the state’s mainstream political parties. BJP chief Amit Shah begins a visit to the state Monday, when he is due to address a rally in Kathua district of the Jammu region.
The leaders of other parties hit the panic button though chief minister Omar Abdullah, also working president of the National Conference, ruled out any possibility of the BJP achieving its target of winning 44 of the state’s 87 effective Assembly seats, giving it a majority. Mr Shah had earlier declared that his aim is to install a BJP chief minister in Srinagar.
The NC as well as the Congress are not leaving any stone unturned to defeat the BJP’s ambitious plan. While the two have already decided to fight the polls separately, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and some other senior leaders, as well as those of the NC, are reportedly keen on working out a strategy solely to frustrate the BJP’s Kashmir plans without making it public.
The BJP, on the other hand, is going all out to translate its “Dilli howi hamari; Ab Kashmir ki bari” dream into reality. To consolidate its gains in the recent Lok Sabha polls in the Jammu and Ladakh regions, where it won all three seats, party leaders are working overtime to make it a force to reckon with before the Assembly elections. For this, it has launched a massive enrolment campaign of all eligible Kashmiri pandits. It is also eager to make inroads in the Muslim-majority Valley to improve its tally.
In the 2008 Assembly polls, the BJP had won 11 of 37 seats in the Jammu region, but none in the Valley (46 seats) or in Ladakh (four seats).
BJP sources said its leaders would visit every Assembly segment in the Valley, Jammu and Ladakh regions as part of its “Parivartan Yatra”.
As reported before, BJP leaders have held a series of secret meetings with potential local allies. Besides trying to find out the “strongest possible” candidates for most seats, the BJP is also trying to woo those who can contest as Independents in seats in the Valley and Jammu areas with a sizeable Muslim population who can command a large chunk of votes. This is part of a plan to use proxies in order to split the committed anti-BJP vote, which it believes may help it realise its seemingly-impossible dream of forming a government on its own in the state.
The party leadership is already confident that, following its impressive victory in the Lok Sabha elections, it is no longer politically untouchable as in the past in Valley areas. “People are coming closer to it in Valley areas, that the BJP’s state and central leaders see as a encouraging sign,” a source said.
In the Kashmir Valley, with 46 seats, the BJP is banking mainly on a division of the vote, whereas in Ladakh, that has four seats, it is hopeful of bagging at least two of them (Leh and Zanskar two Buddhist-dominated regions).
